Every grade listed on this site is a grade we buy. If your material does not match a published ISRI or ReMA code, it is still tradeable — we assess it on assay rather than turning it away.

02Quotation
Getting a firm price
A quotation takes three things. Send them together and we will come back with a firm figure rather than a range.

Photographs
Photographs of the actual material, taken in daylight, including one wide shot and one close enough to read the surface. This is the single thing that most improves the accuracy of a quotation.

Grade and quantity
The grade if you know it, or a plain description if you do not, together with the tonnage available and whether it is a one-off lot or a recurring arising.

Location and packing
Where the material sits, and how it is presented: loose, baled, in bags, in stillages or already containerised. Both change the freight cost, and therefore the price.
Collection
We arrange collection anywhere in the United Kingdom. Haulage is organised against the agreed tonnage, and the cost is reflected in the quotation rather than added afterwards.
Payment and identification
Selling scrap metal in England and Wales is regulated under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, and the requirements apply to the seller as much as to the buyer.
- Payment cannot be made in cash. The Act prohibits it. Settlement is by bank transfer to an account in the seller's name, which also gives both sides a clean audit trail.
- Identification is required. We verify who we are buying from and retain the record, as the legislation requires.
- Scotland and Northern Ireland operate their own equivalent regimes, and we follow whichever applies to where the material is sold.

Selling scrap metal, explained
How much is my scrap metal worth?
It depends on the grade, the tonnage, where it is and how it is packed. Non-ferrous scrap is priced at a discount to the LME quotation for the underlying metal, and the size of that discount is what a quotation actually decides. Send photographs and a tonnage and we will give you a firm figure rather than a range.
Do you buy small quantities?
Quantity affects the price because it affects the freight cost per tonne, but there is no fixed minimum. Tell us what you have. If a load is too small to move economically on its own, we will say so rather than quote a figure that does not work.
Will you pay cash for scrap metal?
No, and neither may anyone else buying scrap in England and Wales. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 prohibits cash payment for scrap metal. We settle by bank transfer to an account in the seller's name.
Do you collect, or do I have to deliver?
We arrange collection across the United Kingdom. You are welcome to deliver if that suits you better, and the quotation is adjusted accordingly.
What if I do not know the grade?
Describe the material in plain terms and send photographs. Identifying the grade is our job, not yours, and getting it right is what the specification sheet on this site exists for.
