Druid covers insulated copper wire and cable, from high-recovery single-strand power cable to mixed low-grade household ICW. Priced on recovery percentage, it is assessed by cable type, insulation ratio and copper yield.

Specification

  • Copper recovery typically 35-78% by cable type
  • PVC, XLPE and rubber insulated cable
  • Free of lead-sheathed and armoured cable unless declared
  • Graded and priced on assayed Cu yield

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation plants
  • Copper chops production
  • Export processing
  • Refinery feed
Grade 11

Household cable

Twin & earth, domestic mains cable

The cable that comes out of houses: twin and earth, domestic mains and lighting circuits, in PVC with a bare earth core. The most common cable arising in the UK and the one most often offered to us. Bought insulated — recovery is established by strip test rather than estimated by eye.

Specification

  • PVC twin & earth and domestic mains cable
  • Solid copper conductors, bare earth core
  • Indicative recovery 40-55%, confirmed by strip test
  • Free of steel armour, lead sheathing and CCA

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation
  • Copper chop production
  • Secondary refining
Grade 12

High-grade cable

Single-core power & welding cable

Heavy single-core power cable, welding lead and stranded flexible cable with a high conductor-to-insulation ratio. The best-paying insulated grade, because there is more copper and less to strip. Typically arises from industrial installation, plant and site work.

Specification

  • Single-core power, welding and heavy flexible cable
  • High conductor-to-insulation ratio
  • Indicative recovery 60-80%, confirmed by strip test
  • PVC, XLPE or rubber insulation

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation
  • Direct strip and melt
  • Copper rod mills
Grade 13

Flex & appliance cable

Three-core flex, extension and appliance leads

Three-core flex, extension leads, appliance cable and kettle leads. Thinner stranded conductors inside a heavier sheath, so the recovery is lower than household cable. Plugs and moulded ends are accepted but are dead weight and are accounted for in the assessment.

Specification

  • Three-core flex, extension and appliance leads
  • Fine stranded conductors, PVC or rubber sheath
  • Indicative recovery 30-45%, confirmed by strip test
  • Moulded plugs and fittings accepted, assessed as tare

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation
  • Copper chop production
Grade 14

Armoured cable

SWA, steel wire armoured cable

別名SWA cable

Steel wire armoured cable from industrial and underground installation. The steel armour is a significant part of the weight and none of the value, so recovery varies widely with core count and armour gauge. Declare it as armoured — mixed into household cable it drags the whole load down.

Specification

  • SWA and steel-armoured underground cable
  • Steel armour is tare, not recoverable copper
  • Indicative recovery 20-40%, varies with core count
  • Must be declared separately, not mixed into ICW

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous separation
Grade 15

Data & telecom cable

CAT5, CAT6, telephone and alarm cable

別名CAT5 cable · Phone and alarm cable

CAT5, CAT6, telephone, alarm and network cable. Very fine conductors in a proportionally heavy sheath, so recovery is the lowest of any cable grade. A material share of what is offered as data cable is copper-clad aluminium rather than copper, which is why this grade is always tested before it is priced.

Specification

  • CAT5/CAT6, telephone, alarm and network cable
  • Very fine conductors, low recovery
  • Indicative recovery 10-20%, confirmed by strip test
  • Tested for copper-clad aluminium before pricing

Typical outlets

  • Cable granulation
  • Low-grade copper recovery
Grade 16

Drove

ISRI Copper-Bearing Scrap

別名Copper-bearing scrap · Irony copper
