We trade the austenitic 304 and 316 families, the 200-series, plus turnings and shredded material, verified by analysis. Sabot

ISRI 18-8 / 304 Stainless Solids · 8% Ni / 18% Cr

Sabot is 18-8 stainless steel clips and solids — type 304 sheet, plate and fabrication offcuts — containing a minimum 7% nickel and 16% chromium (nominal 8% Ni / 18% Cr), with molybdenum and copper held below 0.5%. Material is checked and segregated by analysis, free of other alloy families and attachments.

316 Solids

Marine-Grade Stainless · 10% Ni / 2% Mo (trade term)

Type 316 stainless solids — the molybdenum-bearing marine and chemical-plant grade, nominally 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel and 2-3% molybdenum. There is no separate ISRI code word for 316: the moly premium means it is segregated from Sabot, verified and sold as a distinct, analysis-based shipment.

Ultra

ISRI Stainless Steel Turnings (18-8)

Ultra is clean 18-8 stainless steel turnings: machining swarf from 304 (and, when declared, 316) production, minimum 7% nickel and 16% chromium, free of non-ferrous metals and excessive oil. Traded on assayed nickel content with agreed oil and moisture deductions.

Pekoe

ISRI 200-Series Stainless Solids

Also called200-series stainless · Low-grade stainless

Pekoe is 200-series stainless steel solids: the manganese-substituted, lower-nickel austenitic grades, maximum 0.5% copper. Segregated from 300-series because of its different chemistry, and traded on verified analysis.

Zurik

ISRI Shredded Non-Ferrous, Predominantly Stainless

Also calledStainless shred

Zurik is shredded non-ferrous scrap, predominantly stainless steel, recovered from automobile fragmentizer downstream and sensor-sorting systems. Dense, clean and graded by grade (e.g. Zurik 90) for its stainless and nickel-bearing content, it is a favoured bulk furnace feed.

Why is stainless steel traded alongside non-ferrous metal?

Because it is priced on its alloy content — chiefly nickel and chromium — rather than as plain steel. That puts it in the same commercial territory as the non-ferrous grades even though it is magnetic in some forms.

What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless?

316 contains molybdenum and more nickel, which makes it more corrosion-resistant and more valuable. The two look alike, so a declared grade and, where the tonnage justifies it, an analysis are worth having.
