What Zorba is
Zorba is the non-ferrous concentrate that comes off the downstream of a fragmentizer, separated from the ferrous fraction by eddy current. It is predominantly aluminium, carrying free copper, brass, zinc, stainless steel and wire alongside it.
Most of it originates from end-of-life vehicles and white goods that have been through a shredder. Because it is a mixed product by definition, it is bought on what it contains rather than on what it looks like.
What the number means
Zorba is graded by its non-ferrous metallic content, and the grade is written into the name: Zorba 90 is nominally 90% non-ferrous metallics, Zorba 95 nominally 95%. The balance is residue — plastic, rubber, glass, dirt and moisture.
That number is the single biggest determinant of price, and it is the thing most worth establishing before a load moves. Sized fractions are agreed separately, since grain size affects what downstream separation the buyer can run.
Zorba, Twitch and Zurik
These three describe successive stages of the same separation chain, and they are routinely confused.
Zorba is the mixed non-ferrous concentrate. Run it through a media separation plant and the aluminium floats off as Twitch — a cleaner, predominantly aluminium product that a secondary smelter can use directly. What sinks contains the heavies: copper, brass, zinc and stainless.
Zurik is the stainless-bearing fraction recovered by sensor sorting. It is a different commercial product with a different buyer.
How it is priced
On assay. Zorba is one of the grades where a declared analysis genuinely changes the number, because the buyer is paying for recoverable metal content rather than gross weight. Moisture matters for the same reason.
Quantity matters more than usual here too — Zorba moves in container loads, and the freight cost per tonne on a part load is hard to justify against the value of the material.

Is Zorba the same as Zurik?
No. Zurik is the stainless-steel-bearing fraction recovered by sensor sorting from the same separation chain. It is a separate product with separate buyers and a separate price.
Do you need an analysis before quoting Zorba?
It helps considerably. Zorba is bought on recoverable metal content, so a declared assay and an honest moisture figure produce a firmer price than photographs alone can.
