Motors & Mixed Scrap

We buy electric motors of every size, starter motors, alternators, sealed units and other mixed non-ferrous scrap — purchased whole and priced on their recoverable copper and non-ferrous content, worldwide.

The MohMet standard

Motors, automotive units and mixed non-ferrous scrap

Electric motors, starter motors, alternators and sealed units carry significant recoverable copper. We purchase them whole, priced on their recoverable copper and non-ferrous content — alongside any other mixed non-ferrous material. Every load is sorted, weighed and priced on what it contains.

Grade 01

Large Electric Motors

Industrial electric motors, copper-wound

Large industrial electric motors — pump, fan, conveyor and machine motors — traded whole for their copper windings and recoverable non-ferrous content. Priced on estimated copper recovery by motor type and size, before any dismantling or separation.

Specification

  • Whole copper-wound industrial motors
  • Priced on estimated copper recovery
  • Free of excessive iron mountings and gearboxes by agreement
  • Aluminium-wound motors declared separately

Typical outlets

  • Motor recyclers
  • Copper recovery plants
  • Secondary smelters
  • Separation & granulation
Grade 02

Mixed Electric Motors

Unsorted electric motors, all sizes

Mixed, unsorted electric motors of all sizes as they come off site — from appliance motors to mid-size industrial units. A convenient way to move motor scrap without sorting; priced on average copper recovery across the load.

Specification

  • Unsorted electric motors, mixed sizes
  • Copper- and aluminium-wound mixed
  • Priced on average recovery by sample
  • Free of pumps with excessive iron unless agreed

Typical outlets

  • Motor recyclers
  • Copper recovery plants
  • Secondary smelters
  • Metal separation
Grade 03

Small Electric Motors

Fractional / appliance motors

Small fractional-horsepower electric motors from appliances, power tools and equipment. Copper-wound with a higher copper-to-iron ratio than the smallest units, and traded on recoverable copper content.

Specification

  • Fractional-HP copper-wound motors
  • Appliance, tool and equipment motors
  • Priced on copper recovery
  • Free of non-metallic housings over agreed limits

Typical outlets

  • Motor recyclers
  • Copper chops production
  • Secondary smelters
  • Separation plants
Grade 04

Meatballs

Small electric motors (scrap trade name)

Also calledSmall motors · Stripped motors

"Meatballs" is the scrap trade name for small whole electric motors — ceiling-fan, blower and similar sealed motors. We trade them on recoverable copper, so the copper winding value is captured rather than lost in general shred.

Specification

  • Small whole electric motors (meatballs)
  • Ceiling-fan, blower and appliance motors
  • Priced on recoverable copper
  • Free of loose iron and non-metallics by agreement

Typical outlets

  • Motor recyclers
  • Copper recovery
  • Secondary smelters
  • Granulation plants

Starter Motors

Vehicle starter motors, copper-bearing

Vehicle and truck starter motors, traded whole for their copper windings, brass and recoverable non-ferrous content. A steady auto-dismantler grade priced on recovery.

Specification

  • Whole starter motors, car and truck
  • Copper windings plus brass/bronze content
  • Priced on non-ferrous recovery
  • Free of excessive attached iron by agreement

Typical outlets

  • Auto-part recyclers
  • Copper recovery
  • Secondary smelters
  • Separation plants
Grade 06

Alternators

Vehicle alternators, copper-bearing

Vehicle alternators recovered from end-of-life cars and trucks, carrying copper windings and aluminium housings. Traded whole on recoverable copper and aluminium content.

Specification

  • Whole vehicle alternators
  • Copper windings plus aluminium housing
  • Priced on non-ferrous recovery
  • Free of excessive iron brackets by agreement

Typical outlets

  • Auto-part recyclers
  • Copper & aluminium recovery
  • Secondary smelters

Grade 07

Sealed Units

Fridge & air-conditioning compressors

Also calledFridge compressors · Air-con compressors

Sealed units — the compressors from refrigerators, freezers and air-conditioning — traded whole for the copper motor winding sealed inside. Priced on recoverable copper behind the steel shell.

Specification

  • Whole fridge / AC compressors
  • Copper winding sealed in a steel shell
  • Priced on recoverable copper
  • Free of loose oil and non-metallics by agreement

Typical outlets

  • Sealed-unit processors
  • Copper recovery
  • Secondary smelters
  • Separation plants

Other Mixed Non-Ferrous Scrap

Assorted non-ferrous, sorted on receipt

Mixed non-ferrous material that does not fall within a single grade — mixed loads, wire offcuts, cable, radiators, brass and copper items, insulated or clean. Each load is sorted, weighed and graded on receipt, and every fraction is priced on its own content.

Specification

  • Assorted / mixed non-ferrous material
  • Sorted, weighed and graded on receipt
  • Insulated and clean material accepted
  • Each fraction priced on its own content

Typical outlets

  • Secondary smelters
  • Separation & granulation

Common questions

Motors & Mixed Scrap, explained

Do you buy electric motors whole, or do they need stripping?

Whole. Motors are graded by size — large, mixed and small — and stripping them is not necessary to sell them. Meatballs, which are motors with the housing removed, are graded separately.

Do you buy alternators, starter motors and sealed units?

Yes, all three are grades we trade. They are kept apart from loose motors because their copper and aluminium content differs.
