Millberry is the trade name for No.1 bare bright copper wire: clean, untinned, uncoated and unalloyed bright wire of minimum 99.9% copper, free of insulation, oxidation, burnt wire and any foreign attachments. Recovered from stripped power cable and busbar, it commands the highest price of any copper grade.

Berry is clean, unalloyed and uncoated No.1 copper wire, free of foreign attachments. Unlike bare bright it may carry light oxidation and varying gauges, but must remain free of brittle burnt wire, excessively leaded or tinned wire and insulation residue.

Dream is light copper: sheet copper, gutters, downspouts, kettles, boilers and similar thin-gauge material of minimum 92% copper. Druid covers insulated copper wire and cable, from high-recovery single-strand power cable to mixed low-grade household ICW. Priced on recovery percentage, it is assessed by cable type, insulation ratio and copper yield.

Household cable

Twin & earth, domestic mains cable

The cable that comes out of houses: twin and earth, domestic mains and lighting circuits, in PVC with a bare earth core. The most common cable arising in the UK and the one most often offered to us. Bought insulated — recovery is established by strip test rather than estimated by eye.

High-grade cable

Single-core power & welding cable

Heavy single-core power cable, welding lead and stranded flexible cable with a high conductor-to-insulation ratio. The best-paying insulated grade, because there is more copper and less to strip. Typically arises from industrial installation, plant and site work.

Three-core flex, extension and appliance leads

Three-core flex, extension leads, appliance cable and kettle leads. Thinner stranded conductors inside a heavier sheath, so the recovery is lower than household cable. Plugs and moulded ends are accepted but are dead weight and are accounted for in the assessment.

Steel wire armoured cable from industrial and underground installation. The steel armour is a significant part of the weight and none of the value, so recovery varies widely with core count and armour gauge. Declare it as armoured — mixed into household cable it drags the whole load down.

A material share of what is offered as data cable is copper-clad aluminium rather than copper, which is why this grade is always tested before it is priced.

Kupfer — kurz erklärt

Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Millberry- und Candy-Kupfer?

Beides ist Kupfer Nr. 1, aber in unterschiedlicher Form. Millberry ist blanker heller Draht: sauberer, unverzinnter, unbeschichteter Kupferdraht. Candy ist schweres Massivkupfer und Rohr der Sorte Nr. 1 und umfasst Stanzabfälle, Schnitte, Stromschienen und Kommutatorsegmente. Beide werden getrennt notiert.

Kaufen Sie isolierte Kupferkabel?

Ja. Isolierte Kabel werden nach ihrem rückgewinnbaren Kupferinhalt gehandelt, nicht nach Bruttogewicht — daher zählen sowohl der Ausbringungsanteil als auch die Art der Isolierung. Senden Sie Fotos der Kabelenden und eine Beschreibung des Durchmessers.

Wie sollte Kupfer vor dem Verkauf aufbereitet werden?

Halten Sie die Sorten getrennt. Blanker heller Draht, der unter Nr.-2-Draht gemischt wird, wird als Nr. 2 bezahlt — die Trennung an der Quelle ist also bares Geld wert. Entfernen Sie Eisenanhaftungen und halten Sie das Material möglichst trocken.

Kaufen Sie Kupferkathode und Walzdraht oder nur Schrott?

Beides. Neben Schrott handeln wir Kupferkathode, Kupferingots und 8-mm-Walzdraht und beliefern damit Walzwerke und Gießereien.

Kaufen Sie Hausinstallationskabel und alte Hauselektrik?

Ja. Mantelleitungen sowie Haus- und Lichtstromkreise gehören zu den häufigsten Aufkommen, die wir kaufen. Verkaufen Sie sie isoliert: Die Ausbringung wird per Abisolierprobe an einem Muster ermittelt, und selbst abzuisolieren lohnt den Arbeitsaufwand nur mit der passenden Maschine.

Sollte ich Kabel vor dem Verkauf abisolieren oder abbrennen?

Brennen Sie sie nicht ab. Das Abbrennen von Kabeln zur Kupfergewinnung ist im Vereinigten Königreich nach dem Umweltgenehmigungsrecht eine Straftat, und verbrannter Draht ist als Sorte ohnehin weniger wert. Abisolieren ist zulässig, lohnt sich aber nur in Mengen und mit der richtigen Maschine — verkaufen Sie sonst isoliert und lassen Sie die Ausbringungsprobe den Preis bestimmen.
