The cable that comes out of houses: twin and earth, domestic mains and lighting circuits, in PVC with a bare earth core. The most common cable arising in the UK and the one most often offered to us. Bought insulated — recovery is established by strip test rather than estimated by eye.

Single-core power & welding cable

Heavy single-core power cable, welding lead and stranded flexible cable with a high conductor-to-insulation ratio. The best-paying insulated grade, because there is more copper and less to strip. Typically arises from industrial installation, plant and site work.

Three-core flex, extension leads, appliance cable and kettle leads. Thinner stranded conductors inside a heavier sheath, so the recovery is lower than household cable. Plugs and moulded ends are accepted but are dead weight and are accounted for in the assessment.

Steel wire armoured cable from industrial and underground installation. The steel armour is a significant part of the weight and none of the value, so recovery varies widely with core count and armour gauge. Declare it as armoured — mixed into household cable it drags the whole load down.

Cuivre, en clair

Quelle est la différence entre le cuivre Millberry et le Candy ?

Les deux sont du cuivre n° 1, mais sous des formes différentes. Millberry est du fil nu brillant : fil de cuivre propre, non étamé et non revêtu. Candy désigne les massifs lourds et les tubes de cuivre n° 1, et couvre chutes, découpes, barres omnibus et segments de collecteur. Ils sont cotés séparément.

Achetez-vous le câble de cuivre isolé ?

Oui. Le câble isolé se négocie sur sa teneur en cuivre récupérable et non sur son poids brut : le taux de récupération et le type d'isolant comptent donc tous les deux. Envoyez des photographies des extrémités du câble et une description du diamètre.

Comment préparer le cuivre avant la vente ?

Gardez les grades séparés. Du fil nu brillant mélangé à du fil n° 2 est payé au tarif n° 2 : trier à la source rapporte réellement. Retirez les pièces en fer et gardez la matière au sec autant que possible.

Achetez-vous la cathode et le fil machine, ou seulement la ferraille ?

Les deux. Outre les déchets, nous négocions la cathode de cuivre, le lingot de cuivre et le fil machine de 8 mm, et nous les fournissons aux laminoirs et aux fonderies.

Achetez-vous le câble domestique et les anciennes installations électriques ?

Oui. Les câbles de logement, circuits de force et d'éclairage font partie des gisements les plus courants que nous achetons. Vendez-les isolés : le taux de récupération est établi par essai de dénudage sur échantillon, et dénuder soi-même paie rarement la main-d'œuvre sans l'équipement adapté.

Dois-je dénuder ou brûler le câble avant de le vendre ?

Ne le brûlez pas. Brûler du câble pour récupérer le cuivre est une infraction au Royaume-Uni au regard du droit des autorisations environnementales, et le fil brûlé vaut de toute façon moins en tant que grade. Le dénudage est licite, mais ne paie qu'au volume et avec la bonne machine — sinon, vendez isolé et laissez l'essai de récupération fixer le prix.
